Sustainability, a major focus at Tarifold

Sustainability is an essential part of facing current and future global challenges.

At Tarifold, we are aware of the impact our operations have on the environment and society and are committed to improving our environmental, social and economic impact. By focusing on sustainability we ensure that our actions and decisions meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own. The three pillars of sustainability are: Environmental, Social, Governance or ESG.

SOCIAL

Social sustainability involves a focus on the well-being of people and communities. Tarifold is a equal opportunity employer and endeavours to ensure gender equality, high training standards and internal satisfaction of all employees. We strive for dignity, integrity and respect for all.

ENVIRONMENTAL

Environmental sustainability is the ability to preserve and protect the natural environment over time. We focus on our environmental impact by optimising energy consumption in our plant and constantly improving product design to use the least resources possible.

ECONOMIC

Economic sustainability aims to preserve and promote long-term economic well-being. At Tarifold, we aim to create a balance between economic growth, resource efficiency, social equity and financial stability. We regularly audit our manufacturing and internal processes to ensure this continued commitment.

Reducing our environmental impact,
a daily concern

At Tarifold, we focus on our environmental impact by optimising energy consumption in our plant, setting up recycling processes and constantly improving product design to use the least resources possible.

We try to integrate recycling into every aspect of our business operations, upstream and downstream. We collect and sort our production waste materials and recycle products, and continuously work to reduce our energy consumption.

Reduce energy consumption

We continuously strive to reduce our energy consumption and develop products with a lower environmental impact.

Product development focuses on eco-conception at every stage of development. Our production process are constantly optimised to use less ressources ad minimise waste.

Waste recycling

We encourage recycling at every level of the company, whether its providing employees with recepticals for sorting paper, bottle caps, corks, batteries, clothing, and food waste, or sorting our waste at a manufacturing level.

We collect, sort and recycle our production waste material: compactors are used to reduce the volume of cardboard waste to reduce transport emissions, and plastics are sorted per type to maximise recycling potential by third parties.

We also provide our customers with a detailed analysis of the recycling potential of each of our products, as well as recycling instructions.

Pocket recycling

To keep its promise to always do more for the environment, Tarifold now offers customers the possibility to recycle their old Tarifold pockets.

Dont throw away used pockets, return them to us now!
Any used pocket intended for waste can be returned to Tarifold* and we will take care of recycling the pockets at our own cost.

*Conditions apply.

Tackling single use packaging

We continuously strive to optimize our internal processes. This includes improving the environmental footprint of our packaging.

Continuously improving our packaging

There are both economical and environmental reasons for making our packaging more sustainable:

  • Because the lifespan of our packaging upon reception is extremely short: customers open and then throw away.
  • Because a vast majority of purchases are made online, where packaging does not play a promotional role and only serves to protect products until they reach their destination.
  • Because less packaging means less waste, reducing consumption of finite natural resources, and lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Because we should be working toward reducing our carbon footprint and lowering the impact our packaging has on the environment.
  • Because sustainable packaging will improve, over time, the ability for our business to continue creating products and services longer.

What changes are we making?

In general, we aime to consider eco-friendly alternatives for our packaging such as biodegradable or compostable materials, recycled or recyclable materials, or renewable resources.

  • All cardboard packaging are being switched to 100% recycled Kraft.
  • We have stopped the use of coloured ink: all inserts are now printed in black and white on 100% recycled paper.
  • Wherever possible we have stopped the use of single use plastics (bags, fillings, etc.) and when not possible are striving to replace them with 100% recycled plastics. Our ultimate goal is 0 plastic!
  • All packaging includes recycling instructions for customers to ensure they end up in the right recycling bin.
  • Some of our packaging are even made to be reusable as a product on their own.

Our future milestones

Our environmental commitment doesn’t stop here!
